Principal's Message
As we enter the 2025-26 school year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on all that our
Canfield High School students, staff, and community accomplished this past year academically,
athletically, musically, and beyond.
Academically, CHS was the only high school in Mahoning County to earn a 5-Star State Report
Card which ranked us in the top 2% of the state.
In athletics, our teams produced 19 state qualifiers, four state placers, five league championships,
and three league runner-ups. Individually, 19 student-athletes were named All-Conference, 66
earned All-District honors, 24 were recognized as All-State, and 13 signed letters of intent to
continue their athletic careers in college.
In art, we had three national qualifiers, and multiple students advanced to competitions as state
qualifiers. Our choirs impressed at every level: One Octave Higher received a Superior rating at
the District Competition and an Excellent rating at the State Choir Competition, while our
Chamber Choir earned Superior at both Districts and States. Ten students participated in the
OMEA Honors Choir, and nine students in the Solo and Ensemble Competition earned Excellent
and Superior ratings. The Concert Band and the Symphonic Band both earned Superior ratings at
both the District and State competitions. We are also proud to share that we had one students
selected for ALL-State Band and another for All-State Orchestra. In total, 38 students competed
in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble event with 34 earning the highest possible rating of Superior.
Beyond the classroom and the stage, our Robotics team, The Circuit Birds, qualified for the state
tournament and competed in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Huntsville, AL. Our Speech and Debate
Team finished 10 th in the state (our 15 th top ten finish in the last 17 years) and celebrated one state
champion and 22 state qualifiers.
As we enter this year with excitement, we are offering 13 new courses which expands out total
offering to over 150. These include 18 Advanced Placement courses, 11 College Credit Plus
courses through Kent State and Youngstown State, and a wide selection of honors-level courses.
By pairing our rigorous academic program with a vibrant opportunities in band, choir,
performing arts, 25 varsity sports students clubs, dances, and concerts, we aim to create a high
school experience that is not only well-rounded, but exceptional.
Dr. Mark Potts, Principal
Canfield High School
